New Abuse Lawsuit Filed Against Varsity Brands

📰 The news: Varsity Brands has been named in a new lawsuit filed in Georgia, alleging the company failed to protect athletes from a former cheer coach. It’s the first major case against Varsity since its sale to KKR (explained here) and follows a quieter period without similar new lawsuits.

🌟 Why it matters: The filing brings renewed attention to Varsity’s influence over the U.S. cheer market through its reported ties to USA Cheer and USASF (organizations it has supported and helped establish). The company had recently seen an improved credit outlook and a shift in focus toward new ventures like the Pro Cheer League, signaling confidence that its legal troubles were largely in the past.

📅 What’s next: Varsity has denied the claims, saying athlete safety remains its top priority. You can read the full article here. *Trigger warning!* Please skip reading it if you need to.

New Cheer Show Coming in 2026

A new cheer-focused show, called “The Next Step: Cheer”, is set to premiere in Canada and the UK in spring 2026. Produced by the team behind The Next Step, it will feature some returning cast members alongside Canadian all-star cheerleaders.

Not many details have been shared yet, but a teaser trailer is already available:

  • It’s not the first time we’ve seen a designer brand take inspiration from cheerleading. In its “V for Versace” campaign, Versace featured real athletes from Paris Cheer! See our interview with them here. Fun fact: they even got to keep some pieces from the shoot!
